An Honest Opinion

I've had these a while now in temps ranging from the lower teens to mid fifties. I've got well over 80 hours in them so far with tasks ranging from farm and sled dog chores to scouting and hunting, mostly out of a saddle. There are some things I like and some things I'm not crazy about. I started with the Cover option but now use Timber for hunting and hunting related activities. I ended up with Timber because Cover seemed to be holding on to some water in the outer layer of fabric after swamp romping on the way into a set. As temps were in the 20s with wind, the uppers somewhat "froze," turning the boots into an ice coffin. Not ideal for saddle hunting in the cold. I must mention that at no point were the boots wet on the insides, just chilly. Reached out to customer service (CS) to mention the issue and see if it was common or what. They explained that it's just kind of the nature of the material, likening it to lace up boot with Gore-Tex. While they'll remain dry on the insides, the outer layer may hold some water. CS recommended the Back 40s as a warmer option for my lifestyle in northern Minnesota. I ended up with another Ventlites, wanting to give them another shot. Because the majority of my hunting (and life) is on the move, they seem fairly well suited for me. Comparing color options- The Timber color way feels slightly different in the upper, not quite as stiff? Maybe I'm crazy. I asked CS if they were built on the same last, because I've experienced other boots that varied in size depending on the color way. I was informed that the print was added after the boots rolled out and they are made on the same last. I'm uncertain if this is the case or not since there are different color schemes on the soles. I found Timber to be slightly shorter than Cover in the boot bottom. The Timber felt less sloppy than Cover as well. The heel padding seems like it grabs a little better. Both boots packed out fairly fast, disappointingly, and have a bit more slop than when received. Hoping the next iteration has padding that'll hold up better. So far, Timber seem to be shedding water better than Cover did, not sure if there was a design update or what. That being said, I haven't worn them through the swampy stuff now that the gun season has started. Sizing- If you're between sizes, I'd highly recommend sizing down. They'll feel tight at first, but I promise they'll loosen up. The toe box is generous on these, easily allowing for a toe warmer. Build craft is top notch overall, but as should be expected for the price. The vibram feels beefy, grippy, and sticky. The soles are plenty stiff for hours in a saddle. I am not overly concerned about the sole peeling away from the upper. The solid colored boots do a good job identifying the polyurethane like material wrapping around the uppers. While I expect these to eventually start cracking, I don't think they'll have an impact on the waterproofness, since there isn't a defined seam between the boot bottom and upper. I really have one main grip with the Ventlites. . They are TALL. Like up to my knees tall. Like can't wear knee pads with them unless they're rolled down tall. While this is a personal problem, if you're on the shorter side, it's something to be aware of. As others have mentioned, a gusseted option would be good nice for folks with higher volume calves. I personally have no issues getting my late season clothes tucked into the boots. Here's my honest opinion. . As an on the move boot, I think they're great. In colder areas they'd work for trapping, running (sled) dogs, still hunting, or other high output activities. If you hunt in warmer climates (like south of the Mason Dixon) I think they'd be an excellent option. I imagine that in warm climates, they'll breath extremely well and not get too "swampy. . " If you plan on mostly stationary hunting in cold temps, ice fishing, or standing around in icey water, I don't know that these are the best option. Because they breathe so well, they lack a little bit in overall warmth. As I mentioned, with the high ceiling in the toe box, warmers can the thrown in with ease, but again, not the warmest stationary boot, especially if they've been through water. The boots hike well, though they don't feel particularly light by any stretch. They are very expensive, so I feel like folks should know what they do and don't do well.

Poor quality

These boots stained almost immediately with blood contact. They will not consider blood staining so easily, a product defective even though the stain was treated immediately and won’t come out.

Very comfortable!

The boots are really comfortable. I felt like the top was a wider opening than most, but it’s great sliding them on and not having to bunch up the pant leg to tuck them in. They are not the greatest for cold weather. I have a few sits on them in the 30’s and low 40’s; and my feet have gotten cold while wearing the heavy weight OTC socks. I started putting my stratus bibs on the outside of the boot and it did seem to help. Over all they’re super comfortable and I have no regrets.

The Best that could be Better!

Absolutely the best knee high waterproof boots I’ve ever worn. The reason, how warm and comfortable they are. I’ve been tree stand hunting a dozen times this season on 4 to 5 hour hunts and 30 to 45 degree mornings and my feet haven’t even started to get cold. That’s a first! The one major issue, NO Top of the boot Gussets with closure straps. The boots flap even with my heavy or double thermals and Stratus Pants tucked in the boot and it would be even more comfortable snugged above the calf. Maybe there’s a reason you couldn’t incorporate a closure mechanism on these boots but you need to solve this. No boot would compare with yours if you addressed this problem. It’s still the best yet!

Good boot not warm

Boot is very comfortable and lightweight. Seems very well made and true to size. Not great for treestand use in cold weather though. Even with heavy wool socks my feet got cold quickly in 40f weather.

Overall ok, runs a little big

Wanted to wait until I put some miles on them before I done a review, so ive been . 66 miles 4 times (thanks OnX) , I wish I ordered a size or half size smaller, im normally a 11, wear 11 in rover , delta waders, and everything else and its fine. My left one slips up and down and ive created a blister on my top of my foot. Hopefully they break in, they are comfortable, and as another person said they are loud. But I haven't had that bother me yet. . i think they are pretty good boots , on the fence about 450 dollar value (with tax) . Will heal up and continue to put some hunts in. I have been in mud, water and wet disced up fields. I like the fact they are easy on amd off but im afraid can't have snug fit and that in the same boot. Overall so far so good just wish l had a 10. 5

Junk

Very noisy and I mean noisy if the boot rubs on the other boot. Quite day you’ll be busted. No strap in the back to tighten so if you tuck your pants into the boot everything falls in then your stopping to shake it out. Very disappointing coming from a 400$ boot.

Super lightweight and comfortable. Would recommend the temperature outside to be less that 65 degrees other wise they get a little warm. But anything below that they’re great. Highly recommend. Runs just a touch too big but nothing to worry about if you wear boot socks.

Great potential but greatly disappointed

I recently used these boots in a 5 day pheasant hunt in South Dakota. We averaged between 7-10 miles on foot every day. Terrain varied from flooded grassy areas, to corn fields, to thick wooded areas. Some of the fabric started to fray and the material between the vibram soles and the cushion that your feet sit on took a massive beating. There is no way these will last several years, which is sad because of the massive price tag. I plan to send photos to the team to show them the product flaws.

As I was skeptical about buying online before trying on,these boots did meet all standads. Yes they are a bit pricey but are very comfortable and just as good as all the other sitka gear I own. I'd say if you can afford them then buy them you won't be disappointed.

Too small and stiff opening

Ordered this and was looking forward to putting them through the paces. Came in and the top of boot doesn’t stretch and is so tight I couldn’t get my feet all the way in and they were cutting into my calves. Need a stretchier material or something. Never had this problem with lactose, muck or dryshod

First Impression is good, not great.

The boot appears to be everything that is advertised; lighter weight, cooler, etc. i am in between sizes so the 9 is too tight and 10 is not snug. I have not walked any distance in these boots but I anticipate I will need thicker socks and band-aids for areas prone to blisters. The top of the boot hits the back of my leg when seated (not a good feeling). If you are at least 6’ tall you should be fine.

Not warm

Not warm in cold weather. After 2 hours in the stand in 30 degree weather with “darn tough heavyweight wool socks” on, my toes got cold. Definitely not rated down to -30 as described. Also, the size seems more like an 11 even though I ordered and have a size 10. For $400, don’t waste your money if you hunt in cold weather. Unlike most of the other reviews, this one is not incentivized.

Coming from lacrosse, the ventlite boot has surpassed my expectations so far. The price is steep but my feet didn’t not sweat in these with temps in the mid 50’s and that is worth the money to me. Can’t speak of how they perform in colder temps but with dry feet you are ahead of the game already. Fit and finish is typical Sitka quality and they are considerably lighter than my lacrosses were.

So far so good. I

So far so good. I waited to review these until I actually used them on a hunt. First hunt with them yesterday started with 39 degree morning with temps ending up in the upper 50’s here in southwest Michigan. Tracked a deer and my feet were never cold and never hot. They were very comfortable with no heel slip which I always have an issue with. I will update this review when the temps are zero and see if they truly are as advertised. My feet are always cold so I spent the extra money to see if this broken old veteran could enjoy hunting again. I only gave a four star until they pass the true test of below zero they pass that test and it’s 5+ stars.
